Godparents
This may be the least understood role out there. If you’re reading this because you’ve been asked to be a Godparent and have no idea what’s expected of you: have no fear. Many parents often have few expectations from the Godparents apart from standing with them at the alter and supporting them throughout the time of the Baptism. Traditionally, the Godparent’s role is to assist in the child’s religious development. Sounds complicated, but some basic roles include praying for the child, leading a Christian life as a role model, and helping the child’s faith grow.
This may seem like a huge undertaking, but the good news is that the Godparent is neither a legal guardian nor the “eternal gift giver.” So, while we’d love for you to buy your Godchild a personalized baby blanket every six months – we’ll be honest – it’s neither typical nor expected.
